TanksALot is an idea with a serious purpose: bringing people together through accessible play, then exploring ways to open up beaches, woodland and other places where access barriers leave people behind.
We’re starting with ride-on tank experiences, with inclusion at the heart of their development. Our longer-term ambition is to explore tracked platforms that could help wheelchair users enjoy more of the outdoors.
We’re still at the research and development stage. We’re gathering lived experiences, exploring equipment and working through practical and safety questions. To move forward, we need money, time, knowledge and hands-on support.
£ — Help fund the next step
Financial support would help us develop and test our first equipment, understand its capabilities and work towards a practical pilot.
The things we need to fund include:
- A first vehicle or platform for research and development.
- Batteries, controls, sensors and safety equipment.
- Materials and adaptations to explore different access needs.
- Testing, transport, insurance and pilot costs.
You could help through funding, sponsorship, fundraising or introducing us to someone who supports projects like ours. Donated equipment or materials could also help us make our resources go further.
If you’d like to offer financial support, please get in touch through the form below. We can discuss the next steps and what your support could help achieve.
Time — Help build momentum
You don’t need specialist skills to make a useful contribution. A little time can help us reach more people, gather better evidence and keep the project moving.
You could help by:
- Sharing our survey with wheelchair users and people with access needs.
- Introducing us to community groups, potential partners or venues.
- Supporting administration, research or fundraising.
- Helping organise future consultation and pilot activities.
Whether you can offer an occasional hour or more regular involvement, we’d like to hear from you.
Knowledge — Help us get it right
We want TanksALot to be shaped by the people who could use it. Lived experience matters alongside technical and professional expertise.
We’d welcome input on:
- Wheelchair access, transfers, seating and different support needs.
- Barriers experienced by people with visible and less visible disabilities.
- Engineering, batteries, controls and accessible design.
- Outdoor access, suitable terrain and potential locations.
- Safety, insurance, running a social enterprise and funding.
You don’t need to have all the answers. Sharing an experience, asking a useful question or pointing us towards the right person could make a real difference.
Share your experience through our Beach and Woodland Access Survey.
Hands-on support — Help turn ideas into something practical
We’re looking for people who enjoy making, adapting, fixing and solving problems.
Practical support could include:
- Mechanical work, fabrication and assembly.
- Electronics, wiring, sensors and control systems.
- Exploring seating and access adaptations.
- Providing workshop space, tools or suitable materials.
- Helping transport equipment or prepare future pilot sessions.
As the project develops, we’ll also need suitable places to test equipment and people willing to give honest feedback. Any testing will need to match the equipment’s readiness and the safety arrangements in place.
Start by helping us listen
One of the most useful things you can do today is help us understand what people actually need.
Our survey explores experiences of beach and woodland access. Please complete it if it’s relevant to you, or share it with someone whose experience could help shape the project.
Take or share the access survey.
Tell us how you’d like to help
You don’t need a finished proposal or a big commitment. Tell us what interests you, what you could offer and any limits on your time or availability.
Use the form below and select “Offer support”. If you’re looking for support yourself, select “Request support” and tell us what you have in mind. We’re still developing TanksALot, so we’ll be clear about what we can currently offer.
Help us create more opportunities for people to play, explore and take part.
